Recommendation from the Development Guide
Build Relationships and Strategy
The only way to ensure you can coordinate dispersed IT resources is through strong relationships and a cohesive strategic plan. Make it a point to meet with all the managers in the organization who may be in charge of IT-related decisions. Communicate with them frequently in the role of interested colleague and long-term, organization-wide strategist for IT. Your aim is to become a trusted advisor, not a limiter of options. Represent the big picture, but find ways to collaborate to meet individual needs. In this way, you should be able to build sufficient rapport to create mutual synergy between individual departmental needs and the organization’s larger IT requirements.
