A senior management team of people from diverse specialties in a global advertising agency charged with repositioning a well-known consumer product could not agree on an approach and the client was increasingly frustrated by the delays. Nova’s Team Effectiveness Survey found that too much weight was given to creative concerns for a totally new approach and not enough to the client’s simple repositioning needs. Reconstituting and reorienting the team rapidly produced work that delighted the client and successfully repositioned the product. The effort was so successful the agency’s entire approach to creating teams changed, leading to high levels of productivity, as well as increased client and employee satisfaction.
